Cycling and hiking routes

  • The Pancake (2KM)

This is the outdoor museum of the Biesbosch; a so-called 8-hectare coppice meadow located right next to the Biesbosch Museum Island. A hakgriend is a moist field where willow is grown. The area is equipped with hiking trails and accessible by land. The marked walk of 2 kilometers takes you past a willow garden and a catching pipe of a duck decoy.

  • Boot trail Noordwaard (5KM)

Due to the de-poldering of the Noordwaard (2011-2015), the museum became located on an island in the Biesbosch. In the vicinity of the museum you can take plenty of walks or bike rides and enjoy nature. At high tide, the path that runs through the nature development area is sometimes poorly accessible. It is not called boot path for nothing.

The walk is 8 kilometers and gives you a wonderful view of the different landscapes of the Biesbosch. As a bonus, you get wonderful vistas of the New Merwede River.

  • Poetry Route (8KM)

Several works of art can be found in the Biesbosch. Stichting Poëzie Land van Altena created the project "Seasonal Poems Biesbosch" with the museum. Signs with four seasonal poems each have been placed at eight locations in the Biesbosch. The locations were chosen in consultation with Staatsbosbeheer and the Biesbosch Museum Island and are close to hiking trails. The 32 poems are in a collection that is for sale at the Biesbosch Museum Island.
