Outdoor Museum the Pannekoek

The Biesbosch MuseumEiland has another part you can visit. In fact, on the other side of the water lies the free outdoor museum de Pannekoek.

As humans, we have determined what the Biesbosch looks like. Once the Biesbosch was full of 'grienden': planted fields of willows. By planting, harvesting and processing rushes, reeds and willows on a large scale, a lively trade developed: the culture of willows and reed. As a visitor, experience the world of the workers.

Beaver lodge, duck decoy and workshed

You can also see a pipe of a duck decoy, beaver lodge and a "schrankkeet" (workshed) via the unpaved paths of this outdoor museum. The workers spent the whole week in the Biesbosch during their work. They used this type of sheds to spend the night in during the cold harvest months. In this area right next to the museum, wood is still being chopped and reeds cut just like in the old days.
